Feeding Guidelines (0–6 Months)

  • Recommended Intake: Most babies under 6 months will need about 2.5 ounces per pound of body weight daily.
  • Typical Range: That usually comes out to about 24–32 oz per day for many babies, though needs vary.
  • Feedings per Day: Expect to offer 5–10 feedings throughout the day depending on your baby’s cues and age.
  • Per-Feeding Amounts:
    • 1st Month: 2–4 oz per feed
    • 2 Months: 5–6 oz per feed
    • 3–5 Months: 6–7 oz per feed
  • Each Baby Is Different: Some may take more or less than average, what matters most is steady growth and responsive care.
  • Watch for Hunger Cues: Look for signs like fussing, rooting, or lip-smacking. A satisfied baby will typically release the bottle on their own.
  • When in Doubt, Ask: If you’re unsure about feeding amounts or weight gain, speak with your pediatrician. They can help fine-tune your baby’s plan.
